Pay Rate: $25 per hour
Organizational Description:
L’nuey supports the Epekwitk Assembly of Councils (the full Abegweit and Lennox Island Councils) in the negotiation, consultation, and governance development work of the leadership. L’nuey works with the leadership and engages the Mi’kmaq of PEI on the implementation and protection of the collective Aboriginal and Treaty Rights of the Epekwitnewaq Mi’kmaq
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Pituamkek Project Manager, the Field Technician will be responsible for a wide variety of activities related to the study, monitoring, and preservation of the natural and cultural resources of Pituamkek. The project team will work closely with partner conservation organizations toward shared goals. This position also supports the Boat Captain and other senior members of the conservation team in the course of their duties.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- The Field Technician will assist and support, when necessary, the Boat Captain for the preparation, maintenance and operation of the boats used by the team.
- Effectuate regular patrol on the water and the land to ensure presence and monitoring. The mode of operation is to observe and report.
- Participate in inventories and monitoring projects as required by the work plan.
- Collect, enter, organize, and compile spatial and non-spatial applied science, active management, and monitoring data; perform quality control verification and resolve data issues under guidance.
- Participate and offer logistical support to partners and researchers involved in the Pituamkek project.
- Participate in operational and scientific protocol training (GPS, Search & Rescue, Species at Risk, etc.)
- Participate by offering support in cultural and community activities when needed.
- Participate in archaeology surveys and projects under the guidance of L’nuey’s Senior Archaeologist and the Project Manager.
- Participate in the culture and collection of local Mi’kmaw history and traditions in Pituamkek.
- Respond to general inquiries and inform visitors, direct visitors to sources of information and service areas in the community.
- Responsible for the use of his/her security equipment provided by the employer for the execution of his/her duties.
- Responsible for his/her own weekly timesheet.
- May participate in outreach activities in communities or schools.
- Will wear a uniform during work hours. The uniform is an identifier for the Pituamkek Conservation Team and maintains a professional image while working.
- Other related duties as required.

- A combination of relevant education, training, and/or experience — formal post-secondary education is welcome but is not required.

- Ability to collaborate respectfully and effectively with partners and stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to identify and implement practical solutions.
- Clear and effective communication skills, both oral and written.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- Comfort using Microsoft 365 and other common digital tools.
- Commitment to integrity, respect, and sound judgment in all aspects of work.
