Pay Rate: $18 – $22 hourly for 30 hours/week
Start Date: May 26th or June 30th *Flexible start date depending on applicant’s availability
Organizational Description:
L’nuey is dedicated to supporting the Epekwitk Assembly of Councils—comprising the Abegweit and Lennox Island First Nations Chiefs and Councils—in advancing the priorities of Mi’kmaq leadership through negotiation, consultation, and governance development. L’nuey works in collaboration with leadership and directly engages the Epekwitnewaq Mi’kmaq to protect, implement, and promote the collective Aboriginal and Treaty Rights of the Mi’kmaq of Epekwitk.
Position Summary:
The Mi’kmaq Communications Intern will provide multi-faceted support to the Communications team and help advance key L’nuey initiatives including the implementation of the co-management partnership with Parks Canada. This position will focus on administrative, communications, and research-based tasks, while also offering the applicant valuable opportunities for job shadowing and professional development.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support the communications team by assisting with social media planning, monitoring, and content scheduling.
- Support the communications team in their direct communication with the Epekwitnewaq Mi’kmaq.
- Provide reception support at the front desk, including managing mailouts and greeting visitors.
- Contribute to the development of the Mi’kmaq Business Registry by collecting, organizing, and validating business data.
- Assist with operational and administrative tasks related to co-management activities.
- Participate in job shadowing opportunities with other L’nuey Departments.
- Help coordinate logistics and prepare materials for meetings, events, and initiatives.
- Support to other L’nuey initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Interest in Mi’kmaq Rights.
- Ability to manage information efficiently and with attention to detail.
- Comfortable working independently and collaboratively.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Familiarity with social media platforms.
- Interest in Mi’kmaq governance, Indigenous rights, communications, or environmental stewardship considered an asset.
Additional Qualifications (Helpful but not required):
- Experience providing administrative support or reception duties.
- Previous exposure to board or committee processes.
- Experience working with Mi’kmaq or other Indigenous organizations.
Conditions of Employment :
- Valid driver’s license, insurance and access to a reliable vehicle (in-province travel required).
- Provide a Criminal Record Check.
- Provide a Covid 19 Vaccination Record
- Potential for occasional work on evenings or weekends.
