In honour of the 215 Indigenous children found at the former Kamloops residential school and all who attended and survived residential schools, the Epekwitk Assembly of Councils is hosting a Peaceful Vigil on Thursday, June 10, 2021 at 5pm at Confederation Landing on the Charlottetown waterfront.
The event will consist of a walk, a moment of silence, speeches from both Chief Gould of Abegweit First Nation and Chief Bernard of Lennox Island First Nation, and words from community members.
The Epekwitk Mi’kmaq Chiefs are asking people to show support for all survivors and their families by wearing an orange shirt and demanding action on the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action and MMIWG Calls for Justice.
For there can be no reconciliation without truth, and no truth without education.
Let us break the silence, together.
